Refugee Sponsorship

What is refugee sponsorship?

Refugee sponsorship, at its best, is a relational investment in which sponsors work together to help displaced persons resettle into a local Canadian community. The result of assisting one family can have an impact for years to come, not only on those who have been sponsored but also for the whole community and future generations.

Each year, millions of people around the world are forced to flee their homeland to escape persecution, war or severe human rights abuses. The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reports1 that there are more than 25 million refugees worldwide.

The C&MA, as an officially recognized Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH), has the capacity to make a difference in the lives of refugees through the Canadian Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR), Blended Visa office Referred (BVOR), and Joint Assistance Sponsorship (JAS) programs.

Alliance churches (and partner churches) can enter into a refugee sponsorship undertaking with the full support and guidance of the Justice and Compassion staff.

Are You Seeking a Sponsoring Group?

For refugees abroad, or family members here in Canada who are seeking the assistance of a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH): please note that the CMA SAH does not process sponsorships directly.

We accept refugee sponsorship referrals from our network of Alliance churches, International workers, and partnering denominations. When a church group agrees to partner with you in submitting a sponsorship undertaking, they may contact the C&MA's Refugee Sponsorship Program support staff for further guidance.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.
